Ask A Gallerist: What is the difference between an original and a giclee print?

What is the difference between an original and a giclee print?

Giclee is a French word pronounced zhee klay. It is a a print from a high quality ink jet printer using thousands of droplets of ink per square inch. Many artists and now some museums are showing giclee prints of famous work. Many modern artists create giclee prints of an especially admired piece, so others may enjoy and acquire the image at a lesser cost. However gliclee prints are expensive to reproduce and so cost considerable more than many prints.
